red attic / silk habotai, grass, light bulbs / silk drop ceiling: 15.5x19x7' / 2006

Rational Body: red attic

In this installation, I transformed a white gallery room into an intimate space by constructing a red silk drop ceiling. The translucent red silk lowered the ceiling height to 7 feet and gave the room a gentle glow, changing how people interacted within that space. Central to this piece is a grid of diffused lights that nurtures the grass below. The silhouette of the figure in grass signifies the afterthought, the progression of time, and the remainder of a human. It suggests both the absence and presence of a person, both death and life.
