In these small objects, I explore the issues of intimacy and privacy. I am particularly drawn to clay's strength and fragility and exploit this duality to reinforce a sense of vulnerability. I approach working in clay as I do etching; I impress texture, incise lines and pattern while layering color and surface treatments. I pay close attention to all aspects of these pieces: the top, sides, inside, and bottoms. These intimate objects can be held in your hands or they become horizontal paintings when set down.
